Luke 4: 38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, "To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent." And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.

This past weekend, I was on a board of directors retreat for a young adult ministry. In our first session, we reviewed our notes from last year's retreat in which we reviewed the writings of Blessed Pope John Paul II.

One of the notes reminded us that we didn't have to be relevant in the eyes of the world but rather faithful to the Church. If we are faithful, then we will be relevant.

In today's reading, people were coming to see Christ. Yes, they were coming to see the One Who performed miracles ... Who cured the sick ... Who was the answer to suffering. He was relevant; He is relevant.

Who hasn't endured some type of suffering in their lives? Who hasn't been in a position where they needed healing?

If this is the case, then if we neglect to turn to Christ in our struggles and sufferings, are we failing to be living witnesses to the ways of Jesus Christ? If we continue to live in sinful ways without continually seeking Christ's healing, are we denying that Christ became incarnate?

Humility is how we can be relevant in this world. All other things pass away like parachute pants and leg warmers.

Take care and God Bless.
