Matthew 13:44-46
Jesus said to his disciples: "The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a peaceful resolution to the Middle East crisis.
Investing is a risky business. Some are more risky than others: investing in the housing market versus investing in a new company venturing into new technology.
Depending on the risk, there is some means of sacrifice, from the $1 you spend on a lottery ticket to the monthly mortgage payment that has meant a sacrifice in your eating and buying habits.
Today we have two investors, and both "sell all that they have." What about us? What is our investment? What do we have to sacrifice for the Kingdom of Heaven?
There's a friend of mine who is an inspiration for me. He told me the story a while back so the details are fuzzy, but bear with me. He was working for the state, and in particular approving medical claims in what the state pays for and what the state doesn't pay for. One day, he was faced in having to process the paperwork for contraception. He already had 3 kids at home and his wife stayed at home and took care of the kids. He was faced with a decision. He chose to quit his job.
Now, he has six kids and works for IBM.
The two people in today's reading sold everything to gain The Kingdom of Heaven. My friend wasn't about to hold on to one thing because of comfort. He did the same: he gave everything back to God and God was gracious in His mercy. Take care and God Bless.
