Matthew 14: 13-21
When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, "This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves." He said to them, "There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves." But they said to him, "Five loaves and two fish are all we have here." Then he said, "Bring them here to me," and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over - twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a boy I know who tried to commit suicide.
There have been many reflections on the "Loaves and Fishes" story, so in some way I feel like it would be useless to even comment on this miracle.
Yet, the reason why there has been so many reflections on the story of the loaves and fishes is because this miracle resonates to everyone. We are all aware of our limitations and this reading points to hope: hope in God's providence.
There are so many people out there who need to know and trust in God's providence. In the reading of the loaves and fishes, God's greatness can only be fulfilled through your "yes." You must be willing to give when Christ asks you, "Bring them here to me." In your giving, you in turn must trust in God's divine providence that He will provide for you regardless of how much the sacrifice means to you.
In all things, we must be willing to trust in one thing: God loves you. Sin entered into the world because Satan convinced Eve that God does not love her. Christ came into the world, died on a cross and rose from the dead so that you may not fall for this lie. It is in this lie that we find sin. We must always trust that God loves us and that He will always provide. Take care and God Bless.
