Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for Tommy, who has spinal meningitis.

When I'm in my car, I like to follow the "9 MPH" over the speed limit theory. Of course, if there are any other cars that are doing 12 or 15 MPH the speed limit, I only think that it's fair that I am allowed to do the same. In fact, this morning on the way to work, I noticed someone doing 20 MPH over the speed limit, but in fear of vans on the side of the road that take pictures of you speeding, 20 was too rich for my blood.

It makes you wonder why speed limits are even posted. After all, people are going to drive the way they want anyway. It's human nature to want to push the limits we've been given, from speed limits to cooking times to exercise to whatever else you want to place in here.

We may call it human nature, but it also points to Original Sin and how sin entered the world.

We see the effects of original sin throughout our lives, and we have tolerated and learned many patterns that are the results of original sin. I have known of a few priests and religious that have led others astray because they felt that their opinions were more important than the teachings of The Church, and unfortunately, they have led others into sin. How does today's reading apply to them?

Today's reading also has me looking at how I act and how I speak. Am I leading others to sin in my actions? Am I leading others to sin in my lack of action? Am I leading others to sin through my own sinful behavior? Will I allow sin to enter into the world again? Will I be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Are you striving for greatness, or are you following traffic and ignoring God's commands? Take care and God Bless.
