Matthew 9: 32-38
A demoniac who could not speak was brought to Jesus, and when the demon was driven out the mute man spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He drives out demons by the prince of demons."
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
When I pray, I normally pray for the prayer intentions that are on my heart: my troubles and the troubles of others. Sometimes my prayer turns into a prayer of thanksgiving. Sometimes my prayer turns to sitting in awe. Yet, how often are we willing to pray for an increase in "laborers for the harvest?"
We must recognize that the greatest gift that we can give someone is Jesus Christ. The only way to recognize this is to know that the greatest gift we can receive is Jesus Christ. We are the laborers, brothers and sisters, and we need help. First and foremost, we need the help of Our Lord, because it is He that can transform our hardened hearts. We also need the help of The Church, and The Church is in dire need of faithful followers and faithful laborers. I know many of you, and you are all both faithful followers and faithful laborers, but it is no longer enough. The souls of many are dependent on your example. The souls of many are dependent on your "yes." The souls of many are waiting in anguish for The Truth, and we must go forth and show the The Way so that they may have The Life.
We must always be mindful that we are laborers. We must always be mindful that our labor is not for our own wages but for the glory of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our labor is a labor of love: obedience to God and concern for the souls of our fellow brothers and sisters. This labor that we are all called to is not a labor of material gain, but spiritual growth. We are all called to this labor of love: Love of the Lord.
Today, I ask that you say a prayer for someone in your life who you love so much that you want their souls to turn to God. May this be your act of love for that person this day. Take care and God Bless.
