Luke 7:31-35
Jesus said to the crowds: "To what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another,
'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.
We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.'
For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, 'He is possessed by a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, 'Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.' But wisdom is vindicated by all her children."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those affected by Hurricane Ike and for those seeking employment.
Often times, when someone tries to challenge me on something that may be hurtful to myself, my pride gets in the way. After all, it's tough to change, and when someone challenges me on that, it's humbling and maybe that day I don't feel like being humbled.
I guess it really is a childish way to respond.
As I was driving down the street a few days ago, I felt philosophical and I thought to myself, "the way we relate to others is through our experience." I'm sure this is (a) not an original thought, and (b) probably has some holes to it, but it may help me in my reflection today. After all, we all know what it's like to struggle. We all know what it's like to want to be good and fall.
In the same way we can give from our pain and our suffering, so others can do the same for us. After all, Christ gave from His suffering ... He gave us the opportunity to choose eternal life with Him.
Do not be afraid to let go of the things that hold you back from that choice. If someone loves you enough to challenge you to be holy, give thanks to God!
Take care and God Bless.
