Luke 9:46-50
An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest."
Then John said in reply, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow in our company." Jesus said to him, "Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who serve the poor, that they may be strengthened by the suffering Christ in how they serve.
Working toward the good of another...
As I was reflecting on today's reading, I thought about the Litany of Humility and how in that prayer, we ask Jesus:
"That others may become holier than I
provided that I may become as holy as I should."
It always humbles me to pray that line of the prayer because it reminds me that my holiness is not reliant on an ideal I place for myself to be holy. While we must strive for holiness, it should never be at the expense of loving our neighbors and seeking God's grace so that love as we were created to love.
Everyday, let us strive to be little so that God can truly work in us and so that we may grow in holiness as God wants us to grow in holiness. Take care and God Bless.
