Luke 12:1-7
At that time: So many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. Jesus began to speak, first to his disciples, "Beware of the leaven-that is, the hypocrisy-of the Pharisees.
"There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more. I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one. Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for peace in our neighborhoods.
Well, I just got back from something out of the ordinary. As I was trying to "wrap up" for the night, I heard a horn honking over and over again. I went out and there was a neighbor who came out with me. We both approached the man (who appeared to be under the influence) and a 911 call by me, a swung punch at my neighbor, and 3 cops later, I'm back here at home.
What does this have to do with today's reading?
I was called to go out and say something. He was called out to say something. If it was just one or the other, tonight's ending would be completely different. God provided me tonight with a means to peacefully resolve any possible conflict tonight in having my neighbor there.
In turn, my neighbor told me as we walked back that if it was just him by himself, the other guy would have been violent with him first and he would have had to fight back. With me there, he knew that he didn't have to do that.
Do not be afraid! God will provide us with what we need in times of distress. As I go through my own time of distress in other aspects of my life, today's reading and tonight's altercation reminded me that God is indeed with us, protecting us and providing for us always regardless of the storms around us. Take care and God Bless.
