Matthew 16:13-19
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the intentions of Pope Benedict XVI.
Today is The Church is the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
I recently watched a Word Cup game at a Mexican restaurant recently. It was Spain versus France and when we got there, Spain was up 1-0, which was a good thing because that's who a friend of mine was cheering for.
Then France tied it. Then France took the lead.
The game really wasn't over until, with just a few minutes to go, France scores another goal and sealed their win over Spain.
"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT."
Jesus Christ already kicked in the winning goal, but somehow news hasn't spread around the world and into people's hearts. Nobody seems to be tuning in.
We know that the victory has already been won, but Satan is blocking out the airwaves hoping that he can still win the game. We know that Christ speaks the truth, and so we believe that "the gates of the nether world" will not prevail over The Church... through rain, sleet, and snow... through scandals, heresies, and the media.
All praise and honor to You, Lord Jesus Christ! Take care and God Bless.
