Luke 12:49-53

Jesus said to his disciples: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are traveling.

FYI: I will not be available to send out these readings consistently from tomorrow, Friday, October 27th, through next Friday. Thank you for understanding.

Jesus knew the consequences of being His disciple. If He didn't, today's reading may read like:

"I have come to the earth so that everyone can feel good about themselves. This way, there will be no conflict and everyone will have written on their hearts, 'Be nice.' There will be great conflicts between people, but just ignore what is truth, because there is only such a thing as 'your personal truth.' What is true for you is not true for others. For some, I have written on their hearts that the homosexual act is acceptable as long as they're 'loving' the other person. For others, killing another human life is okay if it means that you can live a responsible life."

For too long, I have lived the "gospel of nice." One day, I realized that it needed to be renamed the "gospel of fear." Fear leads to lies, and lies is that language of the evil one.

As I read today's reading, Jesus doesn't call us to strive for division as I used to think. Rather, Jesus calls us to not fear division with man if it doesn't mean division from Him, Who is The Truth. Take care and God Bless.
