Matthew 10: 1-7
Jesus summoned his Twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. The names of the Twelve Apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus.
Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: 'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.'"
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for a special intention.
First of all, I would like to apologize for the past few days of no thoughts. I've been busy getting things caught up.
"The Kingdom of heaven is at hand ... "
I was ready to skip doing "Dawg's thought" today as well. After all, my focus for the past few weeks has just been to catch up with everything. So much so that I became a lost sheep, wandering aimlessly in the wilderness.
I am not a pagan. I am not someone who did not have the chance to know Jesus through Sacred Scripture and through the Sacraments. I am someone who is a part of the Church.
So, to the "lost sheep" ... not to the pagans and not to the Samaritans ... Jesus sent the Apostles, and the message they bring with them is "The Kingdom of heaven is at hand." It is a message that can easily get piled underneath "the mortgage payment is at hand" or "the electric bill is at hand". It is a message that can easy get pushed behind "the pressure in your neck is at hand" and "the man who cut you off is at hand."
Knowing that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand does not negate that the bills need to be paid and that my health needs to be taken care of as well. Hopefully, it orders the way we rely on God and praise Him for all things. Knowing that the Kingdom of God is at hand doesn't mean that we neglect how we treat our neighbor, but rather it should remind us that we are called to love our neighbor.
"The Kingdom of God is at hand!"
Take care and God Bless!
