Matthew 5:17-19
Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for peace in Israel.
St. Peter seemed to get into a lot of "trouble" through the Gospels: his denial of Christ, his sinking into the water when Christ calls him... and more. The one I'm thinking of is when he proclaimed the Christ is the Son of God and then turns around and tells God what He can't do.
"Get behind me, Satan."
Of course, Peter is not Satan, but Peter was trying to stand in the way of God's plan. When I think of that story, I don't think of Peter thinking to himself, "I want to stand in the way of God's plan." In some way, I think of him having good intent, but lacking faith.
Yet, he always returns to Christ. It is Christ who saves him from the drowning water. We have a sacrament that can do the same for us: reconciliation. Our "yes" to God's forgiveness is the perfect answer to Satan's disobedience. Praise God! Take care and God Bless.
