Feast of St. Mark, Evangelist |
Mark 16:15-20
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
Then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those affected by the Tornado in Texas.
Today is the Feast of St. Mark, Evangelist.
I remember it like it was yesterday: the first time I got the keys for my condo. I was suddenly a homeowner and this was my home to take care of.
It reminded me of today's reading as Jesus commissions the Eleven disciples to continue His work here on earth. The same commission that we have been given as well. In the same way that we have given our lives to Him through our baptism, we are called to invite others to receive His grace in the sacraments.
This got me thinking: are we a people that invite others to share this faith with us? Did we scoff at the people who showed up Easter Sunday and weren't there the next week, or did we invite them back and say, "thank you for being here." Do we continue to invite others to share in this rich faith that we have been given. Do we welcome people and think about how much their soul is at stake, or are we so consumed with our own brokenness that we can't see their need?
I can tell you that I'm terrible at this, but I want to do better, and today's reading is a great renewal for each of us to remember that we have to do better for our souls and the souls of those around us. We must do better for the sake of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Our God. Take care and God Bless.
