Matthew 5:38-42
Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.
For me personally, I find that it's hard to be merciful at times when it seems that the concept of mercy is something foreign. These times come and test our own self worth and speak the same lies once spoken to Adam and Eve: "God doesn't love you."
Christ is no stranger to mercy, and the more we come to accept this mercy in our own lives, the more we can be merciful. In order for us to know God's mercy, it is important to "be still and know that He is God." Today, take a moment away from trying to be "effective" and learn to be "affective." Take some time to contemplate God's goodness and see that goodness in those who you interact with today. It is through this appreciation that we can live today's reading "externally" and "internally." Take care and God Bless.
