John 14: 27 - 31a
Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for healing for the talks between the Anglican church and the Catholic Church.
I had surgery this past Friday to help fix a scar that wasnt' healing properly when I was hit by a car while I was cycling. When I looked in the mirror, a great anxiety came over me. There were thoughts of "what have I done?" to "why am I still dealing with this?" I never thought that my heart would be troubled as it was.
There have been a lot of things in my life lately that has caused my heart to be troubled. In todays' reading, Christ reminds us "do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." I think of those who are struggling to pay their bills. I think of those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. I think of those who are dealing with major health issues. How can Christ's words comfort them? How can Christ's words comfort me?
We have a destiny that we are striving for and it is where Christ has ascended to. Could it be that everything that we are encountering in our lives is a part of that sharing in the beauty of heaven? Could it be that the woman struggling with cancer or the man who is trying his best to keep his business doors open has been given this cross to share in the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord? If it is, it brings great dignity to suffering, and we are blessed to share this with Him.
We have a destiny we are striving for. Let us continue along our way of suffering so that we may share this destiny together with Christ. Take care and God Bless.
