Luke 14: 12-14

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees. He said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those you know who are sick or going into surgery.

When it comes to inviting someone to your spiritual home, The Church, have you extended an invitation to the poor and the lame?

I wonder if we see the Church as our home? Do we see it as a place that we come to visit versus a home? It would be awkward if you invited someone over to someone else's house.

If we do see it as a home, are we ashamed of the house we live in? My condo is a place where there seems to be a lot of gatherings. Whenever there is a meeting there, I take a few minutes to make sure that the dishes are cleaned and the dirty clothes are gathered up in the hamper. I take a look at the main bathroom and I will scrub the toilet bowl.

The great blessing with having people over to my home so frequently is that it keeps my up-to-date on getting things clean. The dishes don't stay dirty for too long, and the main bathroom gets cleaned a lot more often than the bathroom in my bedroom.

If we are inviting others to our home, wouldn't we have a vested interest in the home that we are inviting others to? Wouldn't we more inclined to do the maintenance needed, such as getting to know our faith better and being more involved in serving in ministries?

What about ourselves? If we're inviting others to our house, wouldn't we also take a vested interest to make sure that we are paying the bills necessary to live in our house? Wouldn't be more inclined to tithing and living a life that is accountable?

The poor and the blind are all around us. They need Christ as much as you need Christ ... they need community as much as you need community ... they can be blessed by you as much as you can you can be blessed by them. Isn't it time you welcome someone home?

Take care and God Bless.
