Proverbs 21:1-6, 10-13
Like a stream is the king’s heart in the hand of the LORD;
wherever it pleases him, he directs it.
All the ways of a man may be right in his own eyes,
but it is the LORD who proves hearts.
To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart-
the tillage of the wicked is sin.
The plans of the diligent are sure of profit,
but all rash haste leads certainly to poverty.
Whoever makes a fortune by a lying tongue
is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.
The soul of the wicked man desires evil;
his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.
When the arrogant man is punished, the simple are the wiser;
when the wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.
The just man appraises the house of the wicked:
there is one who brings down the wicked to ruin.
He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor
will himself also call and not be heard.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an end to religious persecution around the world.
My parents told me I was going to go to private school when I was in the 7th grade.
It was my first consistent exposure to the faith.
Before lunch started, the teacher wanted us to find a scripture verse that would be read and reflected before lunch started. Knowing that some students (like me) were not familiar with The Bible, she gave the guideline that the easiest place to start was in the book of Proverbs.
As I read through today's reading, I thought about how the Proverbs were more that just wise sayings. When I was in the seventh grade, if you told me that one day I would read through the proverbs and think to myself, "these proverbs reveal the heart of God," I would have thought nothing of it.
Yet, that's what I thought about as I read through today's proverbs. God does not hide Himself from us. He reveals Who He is to us so that we can continue to grow in faith.
Take care and God Bless.
