Luke 6: 12-19

Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured. Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him because power came forth from him and healed them all.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the protection and guidance of the descendants of the Apostles, the bishops.

Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor, is numbered among those who heard Christ's call and responded.

Maybe he didn't know what he was signing up for. Maybe he had different ideas of what Christ needed to do. Maybe he thought that he knew better.

Regardless of what he thought, when the time came for Judas chose not to say "yes" when he was given the opportunity to be obedient to God.

As I look at my own life, there have been many opportunities to give God my "yes". Like Judas, I have given my "yes" in many pivotal moments, as well as "no" in many moments when I thought I knew better. I forget sometimes that we have an opportunity to affirm Christ as the Living God in our obedience. Our "yes" to Him is our way of recognizing the Lamb of God Whom many have given their lives for, including most of the names of those who were Christ's Apostles.

As we affirm Christ as the Living God through our "yes", so too do we affirm ourselves, whom is entrusted the faith that has been passed on since the days of the Apostles. Let us bear the responsibility with dignity, knowing that it is Christ Who calls us and it is Christ Who is Lord.

Take care and God Bless
