Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for a safe Fourth of July for you and your friends and family.

A feminist group in Latin America is calling for intercessory prayers for the legalization of abortion.

As Christ calls each of us to "go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy," our hearts must turn not only to the infants who are at stake, but to the mothers who such a fearful decision to make. We must also be compassionate to those who are calling for this prayer, because they are the ones who have accepted the lie of murder as being merciful. At the root of everything, God created them good as well, and we must pray that they understand how good God made them, and how merciful God is to allow them to continue to live.

I would be lying if in my own heart, I was ready label the feminist group as "evil." In my heart, I am still learning the meaning of the words, "I desire mercy." Christ did not come for those who are well; He came for the sinner. He came for you... He came for me... He came for the sake of every human, from conception to natural death. May we learn the meaning of the words, "I desire mercy." in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in our prayers. May God Bless the situation there in Latin America with His mercy and His grace. Take care and God Bless.
