Halloween 2003 |
Romans 9: 1-5
Brothers and sisters: I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh. They are children of Israel; theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; theirs the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

Today's prayer intention is for the safety of all children tonight, Halloween.
"The apostle speaks in strong terms of the depth of his grief over the unbelief of his own people. He would willingly undergo a curse himself for the sake of their coming to the knowledge of Christ (Romans 9:3; cf Lev 27:28-29). His love for them derives from God's continuing choice of them and from the spiritual benefits that God bestows on them and through them on all of humanity (Romans 9:4-5)."
St. Paul would have been great in sales. In today's reading, in light of the footnote above, we see how much St. Paul wants God's chosen ones to know the Truth. We must have that same zeal with all those we know. We must be willing to bring all of them closer to God because of how good God has been to us all.
To be a good salesperson, you need to believe in the product. We have the best product of all: The Gospel Message. How can you not believe in this product...
It has the ability to change lives...
It has been proven to stand the test of time...
It comes with no out-of-pocket cost...
... and it applies to any other sales pitch that you can think of. Those sales pitches were made because we all have a deep down desire that needs to be fulfilled, and you, great Jedi salesperson, have the answer to the gizmo that everyone needs.
I believe in "The Product," otherwise this ministry would not exist. I believe that The Gospel can change lives. I believe in how we need His nourishment above all other desires. Let us go forth and bring The Gospel message to the ends of the earth. Take care and God Bless.
