Monday in the Octave of Easter
Matthew 28:8-15

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the news to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. The chief priests assembled with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.' And if this gets to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." The soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has circulated among the Jews to the present day.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to genocide.

"From the beginning of Christ's mission, women show to him and to his mystery a special sensitivity which is characteristic of their femininity. It must also be said that this is especially confirmed in the Paschal Mystery, not only at the Cross but also at the dawn of the Resurrection. The women are the first at the tomb. They are the first to find it empty. They are the first to hear: "He is not here. He has risen, as he said" (Mt 28:6). They are the first to embrace his feet (cf. Mt 28:9). They are also the first to be called to announce this truth to the Apostles (cf. Mt 28:1-10; Lk 24:8-11). The Gospel of John (cf. also Mk 16: 9) emphasizes the special role of Mary Magdalene." - Pope John Paul II in "Muleris Dignitatem" (The Dignity of Women)

As I was reflecting upon the passion of Our Lord, I found it fascinating that at the moment when the covenant is fulfilled, only St. John the Evangelist is the only one there from the twelve male disciples. The women were found comforting Our Lord. A woman wipes away the blood from Our Lord's face. The women were found at the foot of cross. (A man helps Jesus to carry His cross, but he was forced in to service).

In today's reading, who is leaving the empty tomb? The women. Who encounter's Christ? The women.

"Christ's masculinity was shown in His action... This is contrasted with Adam, who in the midst of his wife's encounter with the serpent, remained completely silent. The antithesis of masculinity, then, is non-action, not doing what love requires in a given moment." - Eric Westby

Christ is risen from the dead! Christ has won the victory! Let us act confidently in Who Our Lord is and Who Our Lord made us to be! Let us live in fear no longer, for in Christ, we have no reason to fear. In Christ, we are truly saved. Take care and God Bless.
