John 6:30-35
The crowd said to Jesus: "What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat."
So Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
So they said to Jesus, "Sir, give us this bread always." Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.
The antiphon for the Responsorial Psalm is, "Into your hands, O LORD, I commend my spirit."
We know that this is one of Jesus' last words on The Cross before He gave up His spirit and sacrificed His body to the point of death for us.
As we look at our own lives, how often do we proclaim this antiphon to God in our struggles and our hunger? How often do we surrender our desires at the foot of the cross?
Again in today's reading, we hear about the people who want Jesus to provide something for them. They recognize the need they have within them and recognize that Jesus can fulfill their needs. Jesus wants to do so much more for them than just make sure they never go hungry. Jesus knows that He is going to give Himself, His Body and His Blood, as a sacrifice for each of us.
Today, give thanks to The Lord for His sacrifice, and through His sacrifice, may we proclaim with our whole being, "Into your hands, O LORD, I commend my spirit." Take care and God Bless.
