Feast of The Baptism of Our Lord
Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

The people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are sick, that Christ may heal them and grant them comfort.

Today in the Church is the Feast of the Baptism of The Lord. For today's reflection, here is what the Catechsim of The Catholic Church says about Christ's baptism:

#536: The baptism of Jesus is on His part is the acceptance and inauguration of His mission as God's suffering Servant. He allows Himself to be numbered among sinners; he is already "The Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world." Already He is participating in the "baptism" of His bloody death. Already He is coming to "fulfill all righteousness," that is, He is submitting Himself entirely to His Father's will: out of love he consents to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins. The Father's voice responds to the Son's acceptance, proclaiming His entire delight in His Son. The Spirit Whom Jesus possessed in fullness from His conception comes to "rest in Him." Jesus will be the source of the Spirit for all mankind. At His baptism "the heavens were opened" -- the heavens that Adam's sin had closed -- and the waters were sanctified by the descent of Jesus and the Spirit, a prelude to the new creation.

Take care and God Bless.
