Luke 9: 51-56

When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an end to the use of contraception and abortion.

Sometimes I feel like "calling down fire from heaven." When I hear about people who do evil things, it's sometimes too easy for my heart to want to see justice.

Yet, how many times have I rejected Christ myself? I want justice to be seen, but I know that I have been a recipient of God's mercy many times over. Each time, Christ could have "called down fire from heaven" and He would have been justified.

Thinking about this makes me question if I take God's mercy for granted. After all, if God has been merciful to me, should I not extend the same mercy to my neighbor? Should I not pray for mercy for those who have done great evil? It puts "everyday" sins such as gossip in perspective because we ignore the humanity of a person when we "kill" another's dignity.

Let us be merciful with our neighbor as an act of thanksgiving for God's mercy. Take care and God Bless.
