Luke 11:42-46

The Lord said: "Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God. These you should have done, without overlooking the others. Woe to you Pharisees! You love the seat of honor in synagogues and greetings in marketplaces. Woe to you! You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."

Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply, "Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too." And he said, "Woe also to you scholars of the law! You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those minister to the sick, that God may strengthen them with patience and grace.

Envy vs. Charity

"... you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God"

Being a person of not a lot of money myself, I often pass my own judgment on those who do have money. In fact, I pay so much attention to the money I don't have that I forget to thank Our Lord for the things I do have. I forget God's love in my envy. I deny mercy in my sin.

Charity, on the other hand, takes what Our Lord has blessed you with and gives, and in giving, loving. The Pharisees receive the big "WOE" from Our Lord because they were not willing to love. They were not willing to give of themselves. Instead, they want more: the adulation, the honor, the recognition.

Why look at the things that others have? Why look at others with envy. Instead, look at what you have and give glory to God. Instead, look at what you have and, in thanksgiving, share God's goodness with others. Look at what you don't have and give thanks to God for the opportunity to grow in holiness.

Give thanks to God. Give praise to God. Give of your treasure in thanksgiving and praise to Him. Take care and God Bless.
