Mark 8: 14-21
The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. Jesus enjoined them, "Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." They concluded among themselves that it was because they had no bread. When he became aware of this he said to them, "Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember, when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?" They answered him, "Twelve." "When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?" They answered him, "Seven." He said to them, "Do you still not understand?"
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for art to point to the truth and beauty of God.
Today I was asked the question, "did you see the Grammy's?" I did not, but one of the topics that people seemed interested to talk about is Lady Gaga and something about an egg. While I haven't seen the video, it seems like a scene that everyone is talking about.
Which makes me wonder: what is the "leaven" that we are dealing with in our world today? What is changing our "state" from being authentically human to trying to be something that looks nothing like the Creator we are made in the image and likeness of?
Watch out and guard against the leaven of the entertainment culture and the leaven of politicians. Watch out and guard against the leaven of advertising and the leaven of living a "popular" or a "comfortable" life. I could go on for a while.
It is through Christ that we can place our hope in the everlasting versus the "leaven" of facing today. It is through Christ that we can see and discover the greatness that we were made for versus the mediocrity that we are told we can be. It is through Christ that we can know what is truth because He is Truth.
It is through Christ that we will be able to understand. Take care and God Bless.
