Luke 1:57-66
When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John." But they answered her, "There is no one among your relatives who has this name." So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name," and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with him."

Today's prayer intention is for priests and religious who are far away from their families, that they feel loved and supported during this time.

Let Us Pray
O Lord Christ, Thou were pleased so to humble Thyself in Thine incarnate divinity and most sacred humanity as to be born in time and become a little child. Grant that we may acknowledge infinite wisdom in the silence of a child, power in weakness, and majesty in humiliation. Adoring Thy humiliations on earth, may we contemplate Thy glories in Heaven, Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns forever.

It seems paradoxical to think of obedience as freedom. Yet, in today's reading, we see how the humility of being obedient to God can allow us to be more of who we are created to be. Also, look at today's portion of the Litany to the Infant Jesus. "Wisdom in Silence... Power in Weakness... Majesty in Humiliation..." Christianity is very paradoxical in practice when viewed through the eyes of the world.
Obedience. Silence. Weakness. Humiliation. Many people fear these things because without knowing and trusting God, these things don't make sense. We must surrender our own trust to God. By being obedient to His commands, we will know true freedom and become the people God created us to be. Take care and God Bless.
