Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle |
Matthew 9: 9-13
As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those who are contemplating getting an abortion today, that they will choose to give birth to their child.
Lord, not only do You eat with tax collectors and sinners,
You give Yourself so that each sinner may consume You ...
You invite each sinner to come to You and receive mercy ...
and You do all this for the greatest and the least.
How can I extend Your invitation to those who do not know You?
How can I tell others of Your mercy when they do not know You?
How can I love my neighbor if I don't tell them of the great gift of Your mercy?
Lord, give me the humility to love my neighbor ...
to desire the best for my neighbor ...
to grace to be able to love those who need to know You.
Lord, let that love be exclusively from You
so that they may know You
and in knowing You, see themselves more than
a tax collector or a sinner. Amen.
Take care and God Bless.
