Luke 7: 11-17
Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, "Do not weep." He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, "Young man, I tell you, arise!" The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, "A great prophet has arisen in our midst," and "God has visited his people." This report about him spread through the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who exchange their bodies for money, that they may come to know the true dignity that is imprinted in them as the image of God.
It is no mere coincidence that today's reading deals with a son who rose from the dead and a widow who mourned the death of her son. The parallels are obvious.
Our God is a compassionate God who looked at the widow and used her suffering to glorify God. We must always be mindful that the pain we experience does nothing to glorify us. Rather, it is through our weakness that God is glorified and we are purified, and we must always strive for purity of heart to see the Face of God. We are all called to "arise," and I pray, brothers and sisters, that your heart is willing to listen to The Master has He calls you from your state of lowliness to greatness.
If we are unwilling to "arise," God has no choice but to answer us, "Thy will be done." We all have the free will to choose whether or not we will follow Christ through obedience. There is no such thing as "lukewarm" to God. God could not tell the man who passed away that he could be "half-alive." Jesus calls us to life, and I pray this day that you choose to be alive in Christ. It is time to "arise." Take care and God Bless.
