Wednesday in the Third Week of Lent
Matthew 5: 17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are suffering with cancer.

Have you ever gone on a diet? A few years ago, I was meticulous about counting every calorie that entered into my body. I was obedient because I wanted to reach a goal.

I stopped counting a few years ago and ever so slowly, I started gaining a few pounds.

It is tempting to think about the greatest commandment given by Christ and then forget that there are other commandments given. In a way, the greatest commandment shed light on the goodness behind God's commands. In being obedient to it, we love God and we love our neighbor.

As I was counting calories, I thought about the different foods that I took in. It is easy to think about those who have gone on an all-protein diet and simply ignore carbs. Yet, from my own experience, if you eat only proteins and then you introduce carbs, the weight comes on even more quickly.

Knowing this, it is good to not only think about the commands that we think apply to our lives now, but to work on all of God's commandments. It is good to do a complete examination of conscience of your sins versus confessing the sins that you know you habitually struggle with.

It is good to know the virtues and work on them. It is good to know the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we can pray for them. It is good to know the things of our faith because they all work together in something that we all want to do ...

Jesus replied, “The first is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12: 29-31)

Take care and God Bless.
