Luke 1: 46-56
Mary said:
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
for he has looked upon his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever."
Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who are traveling this Christmas season, that they Lord keep them safe and in His mercy.
Sometimes we forget that these words were spoken under a times of great concern for Mary. She prays this prayer in a time in her life when all she had was her trust in the Lord. That's all she had.
We see in The Magnificat a sincere trust in the Lord that we should all strive for. She knows that Our God is a just God and a merciful God. Her rejoicing is not in who she is or who she's carrying. Instead, she rejoices in God her Savior. It is a prayer that was made when all she could do was rejoice in her Savior.
It is also a prayer that we can make in our times of distress. When nothing is going right in our lives, it is a prayer that reminds us that God will exalt those who are lowly. When we lack the faith in God, it is a prayer that reminds us that God will never forsake us. When all trials seem unbearable, it is a prayer reminds us that God will always come to the help of the poor in spirit.
To God alone be all glory and praise! In the peace of Christ, Take care and God Bless.
