Matthew 8: 23-27

As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?"

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the Diocese of Boston as their new Bishop has been announced, Bishop Sean Patrick O'Malley.

Jesus as Prince of Peace

We have many storms in our lives. There are the storms that we create for ourselves that come from bad choices.

There are storms that we cannot control, though. There are storms in our lives that continue to rage within us and they continue to grow in strength. The disciples, although Jesus rebukes them, do the right thing in calling Jesus to help them calm the storms that they have no control over.

Some people like to ignore the storm. Some people try to change the storm. There are even those who face the storm head on. We can try all these things, but in the end, they are storms that we have no control over. Let me rephrase that: they are storms that God gave us no control over in the effort to grow in trust and humility. We are weak for the sake of the greater gifts. The disciples were made weak in the time of the storm so that 2000 years later we can talk about trusting in Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace in each of our lives.

Take a look at the Diocese of Boston. They went through a crisis within their Church regarding Cardinal Bernard Law. They had their own storm, and God has provided a bishop who has handled sex abuse cases within The Church. God will provide and will never let the powers of Satan overcome The Church. God wants the best for you and will always provide for you.

Continue to pray for those storms in your lives. Ask within your prayers for the Prince of Peace to calm those storms so that you can be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, fortitude, knowledge, counsel, piety, and awe and wonder. May you always walk with Jesus. Take care and God Bless.
