Wednesday in the Third Week of Lent
Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an 8 month old baby, who is suffering from major burns.

One week ago, on Wednesday in the second week of Lent, we have another quote on greatness from Our Lord:

"Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

The word "greatness" denotes something that we should all strive for. We should never strive to be "mediocre" or "barely passing" (that would not be virtuous; sloth is one of the seven deadly sins). At the same time, we are also fallen.

It is only through Christ that we can truly live out our vocation to true obedience. Christ came into this world to fulfill the law. Christ comes into each one of us so that we may be obedient to the law. It is through our obedience to Our Lord that we can truly become obedient (after all, you can become obedient to the world and that would really screw you up).

Obedience to Christ means obedience to the sacraments. We must remain obedient to Our Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist. We must remain obedient to His mercy in the sacrament of reconciliation. We must remain obedient to our baptismal promises. We must remain obedient to our vocation (to priesthood or marriage).

We must strive for greatness... We must strive for obedience. Take care and God Bless.
