Feast of the Holy Innocents, Martyrs |
Matthew 2:13-18
When the magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him." Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi. Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the conversion of hearts of those contemplating getting an abortion, that they may choose life.
Today is the Feast of the Holy Innocents, Martyrs.
What was Herod so fearful of that he had to kill innocent children? Was he afraid that he was going to lose his power? Was he afraid he was going to lose his riches? Was he afraid that he was going to lose his life?
That is what we are faced with today. How many innocent children are losing their lives because of people who are afraid that they would have to "lose" their lives? How many people are encouraging women to "get an abortion" because of their own fears?
I know that it can be a fearful time. I know that many women are susceptible to suggestion because they are scared and don't know what to do. I have known many women who have been in this fearful situation and have chosen one or the other.
We must pray that there will be more people there to serve the mothers who are scared. We must pray that there are more examples of St. Joseph who will protect life. We must pray that we are examples of holiness so that others may see the goodness of choosing God's ways.
We must pray for a restoration of the dignity and value of life. Take care and God Bless.
