Matthew 6: 7-15

Jesus said to his disciples: "In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

"This is how you are to pray:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil."

"If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for mercy to be on those who have no home or shelter.

I was California this past weekend and I had the chance to go to Santa Monica.

While walking, there were a few Christians who held up signs that quoted scripture. I remember reading one of them and I was struck by how, in my mind, the scripture passage was completed with the words from the Nicene Creed ... "He will come again in glory" ... "to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. "

I was grateful for the times that we declare the Creed during mass.

It's easy for me to look at the Our Father and simply go through it. Yet, how often do I allow it to be my response? How often do I turn to The Father in my poverty and say, "give us this day our daily bread"? How often do I respond to the person who cuts me off in line, "forgive us our trespasses," remembering that we have offended Our Beloved Lord ourselves?

We can be saints by responding to our everyday struggles with the words of the Our Father. In our times of times of temptation, how often do we recall that The Father does not lead us into temptation, but rather it is our free will? How often do we live our everyday lives as if we are in communion with God in heaven.

Lord, it is easy to babble the words You give us.
In Your mercy, help me to remember these words
in times of difficulty and times of grace.
May I trust that the Father knows what I need,
and in trusting that,
may I receive all blessing and trials
as a gift from His bounty.
In each, may I respond with Your words,
so that I may grow in holiness,
glorifying You here on earth as in heaven.

Take care and God Bless.
