John 15:12-17
Jesus said to his disciples: "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the fires in California and Georgia, for the families and the firefighters.
When I was a child, anybody could have been my friend. As I grew older, I started to recognize who was truly a friend.
What happens when you're around those friends? How do you feel? Secure? Safe? Free?
Jesus calls us friends. I know that when I'm around friends I really trust, I can be myself. I can feel free to be who God made me to be. I am more willing to accept and admit my shortcomings. I am free of the yoke of perfectionism.
Jesus calls us friends. Let us live in that freedom so that we can truly rest in His mercy and be open to His grace. Let us not be fearful that we are not perfect, and let us run to His forgiveness when we sin. Let us remember that as a friend, we can be free to be who He made us to be. Take care and God Bless.
