Matthew 7: 15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for a restoration of the dignity of marriage between one man and one woman.
I remember how packed the church was the Friday after the 9-11 attack. It was an amazing sight to see so many people who hungered for something that was greater than they were ... someone Who they could place their trust in.
When the hunger is real, the search for True Food and True Drink has a true purpose.
What happens when people forget that they are still hungry for the God Who is True Food and True Drink? In a way, it seems that there is a hunger that grows for things that are false. It seems that a hunger grows for something that cannot be satisfied. The person who is obsessed with their weight ... the person who wants the latest gadget ... the person who hungers for conspiracy theories.
There are a lot of types of fruit that people want to pick to feed themselves with.
When it comes down to what we really need, are we filling ourselves with Jesus Christ, Whose Body and Blood is True Food and True Drink? Are we bearing the fruit of the One Who is "good" so that we can bear "good fruit"?
Lord, we do not desire to be false prophets,
but rather, bearers of the great gift You entrust us with.
Humble us, Lord, so that our hearts do not stray
toward false prophets and false promises
which are the work of the evil one.
Keep us humble, Lord, so that our hearts desire You alone,
so that You may increase as I decrease.
Take care and God Bless.
