Luke 14:12-14

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees. He said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the soul of Anacita Augustine.

Throughout the month of November, the prayer intentions will be for souls who have passed on. If you have a loved one that you want as a prayer intention, please feel free to send me their name(s).

We're pretty spoiled. We can find most of the information that we need at the click of a mouse. We can order food and have it ready by the time we drive up to the next window. We can receive emails while we're driving on the road.

Following the Gospel will not reap such immediate rewards. In fact sometimes it may seem like folly. The mercy that God calls us to in today's reading won't make us more popular or get us more "stuff." Living a life obedient to the Gospel won't make us more socially acceptable.

What we are receiving is something far more precious: storing treasure in heaven. It is purifying, and Jesus promised us that "the pure of heart will see God."

Today, as we strive to be merciful to those in need of mercy, let us not be caught up in seeking the immediate rewards, but rather let us have faith that Jesus is always faithful to each of us.

Jesus, we trust in You. Take care and God Bless.
