Matthew 5:43-48
Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an end to the abuse of children around the world.
How radical is today's reading? As I was searching MSNBC for a prayer intention for today, I read about the two soldiers whose bodies were found tortured in a barbaric way. I continued reading and I just got angrier and angrier.
It's not a sin to be angry, but if we lose sight of loving those who hurt us or have hurt others, it can lead to sin. We must strive to be perfect in love and we can do this by praying for those who make us angry, that their hearts may be changed to love Our Lord. The sacrament of reconciliation is a great gift. There are many in the world today who need to receive Our Lord's mercy, and it is not for us to decide who is worthy of Christ. Take care and God Bless.
