Matthew 24: 42-51

Jesus said to his disciples: "Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.

"Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,' and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are preparing for marriage.

They say that many who win the lottery end up being back in the same position they were in originally or worse. I hear it is that way with athletes who have earned millions of dollars over their career, but didn't know what to do after they retired.

With the comfort of abundance came the lack of prudence.

This is often the thought I have when I go to one of those "all-you-can-eat" places. It always sounds like a good idea when you go in; it rarely feels like a good idea when you leave (unless, of course, you stopped before you got to the point when live is uncomfortable).

There's a sushi place in the city I live in that is all-you-can-eat. When you get there, you want to try everything ... and I felt like it at the end. As I have gone more and more, I started to realize what items to order so that I don't go overboard. Prudence, in this case, isn't so much about limiting what I can eat versus having the freedom to enjoy the food as well as enjoy my time after the meal.

It is good to know that there is a limit to the time that we have. It is good to know that we bear the responsibility of our choices in the light of Christ versus the light of modern society. It is good to participate in the freedom He gives us by being prudent in our choices.

It is good to know that we are all loved by a God Who is just and will act justly. Take care and God Bless.
