Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for and end to the use of contraception.
In today's reading, we see that Jesus is willing to share His yoke with us, meaning that He is yoked Himself. What is the yoke that he has that will bring my rest, or "fulfillment"?
I feel like my own life has been me "yoking" myself to various things, unfortunately of my own choosing. I have yoked myself to the illusion of what I feel I am entitled to. I have yoked myself to the ideas of individuality.
Yet, Christ has a different yoke He is sharing with us: The Father's will.
From the outside, the Father's will looks like a heavy burden, and there lies the paradox. The Father's will appears heavy because the world cannot seem to bear the load, yet we were made to do The Father's will.
Right now, my living room has been taken over by pink and gold chest of drawers with little white flowers painted on them. I can tell you right now that it looks like a heavy burden, yet I also know that it was The Father Who led me to strip my manly black chest of drawers and refinish them. As I look at them, I think of the room it's going to be in, shared by two expectant mothers who may be scared because they were alone and had nowhere to turn. Hopefully, this will remind them that each of us are children of The Father and so we have nothing to fear.
As children, we also share in the work of His Son, Jesus. Let us take the yoke Christ shares with us where we will find rest and fulfillment. All other things are done in vain and lead us to chase after things that will never fulfill us. That isn't rest ... it's insanity.
Praise be Jesus Christ, Who shows us the yoke of the Father and through Whom we will find rest and fulfillment. Take care and God Bless.
