Mark 3: 7-12
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, "You are the Son of God." He warned them sternly not to make him known.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for the swift and safe return of Fr. Joseph Makwey and Fr. Sylvester Mogga.
A few years ago, I heard of a priest from the Philippines who was in town who has been known to heal people. I was able to go to the Mass and the crowd was so enormous that it filled church, the hall and we happened to be in the outdoor area where there was a large crowd there too.
I brought a friend of mine who, at that time, recently had a stroke. When I heard about this, I wanted to bring him there so that he could be healed by Christ.
It was amazing to see how many people were there at the church for a weekday evening. I was there to see who is this priest who is a conduit of Christ's healing power. My friend was there to receive the healing power of Christ.
Get rich quick schemes and lotteries also seem to draw a crowd. There is a sense that financial abundance is a cure for suffering. A few years ago I went to a bar with my brother in a popular part of town and it was amazing how many people were there. There was a sense that people wanted a cure from being alone.
We know that there is One Who can cure us from what ails us. He didn't come to give us financial freedom. Rather, He forgives us of our sins.
If we know this, then couldn't this be the way that we can bring others back to the Lord? I brought my friend who needed healing to a place where he could experience God's healing power. We could bring those we know who are in need of Christ's healing power in the sacraments of Baptism and Confession.
Is it any wonder, then, that sin is tolerated so much in our world?
Let us be faithful to the Church's teachings, then, regardless of what society tells us we need to tolerate for ourselves and for those around us. Let us always be mindful that Jesus is the Son of God, and it is He that forgives us our sins. Take care and God Bless.
