1 John 4:19-5:4
Beloved, we love God because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the Father loves also the one begotten by him. In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the safety of two friends of mine who are driving from Arizona to North Carolina.
At night, I pray for purity of heart so that I may see the face of God, as it says in The Beatitudes. It is a desire to see Him when my body expires. It is also the desire to see Him in His children so that I may love Him more. It is seeing Him in the person that I grow impatient with, knowing that God is calling me to grow in patience. It is in seeing Him in the person who I lust after, knowing that God is calling me to grow in purity. It is in seeing Him in those who are suffering, knowing that God is calling me to grow in compassion.
Everyday we have the choice to grow in virtue through loving those we have a hard time loving. Everyday God calls us closer to Him through loving obedience. Everyday, I pray for purity of heart so that one day I may see The One whom I adore and worship. Take care and God Bless.
