Matthew 19:3-12
Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and tested him, saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?" He said in reply, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate." They said to him, "Then why did Moses command that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss her?" He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery." His disciples said to him, "If that is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry." He answered, "Not all can accept this word, but only those to whom that is granted. Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention:
We are presently experiencing a range of environmental air quality issues in Malaysia and Indonesia. In some areas of Malaysia, the country government has declared a state of emergency. There are 100s of fires burning in Sumatra, Indonesia. Smoke and fumes from these fires have made their way to Malaysia causing a series of health issues. API (Air Pollutant Index) is anywhere from >300(hazardous) to >500 (emergency). The Prime Minister of Malaysia has requested prayer for rain and his people. There is an increase in respiratory illnesses, schools and government offices have closed; where air pollutant index is deemed ‘unhealthy’ through ‘emergency’, people are wearing masks for fine particle filtering, and so on. Yesterday, my office began distributing masks to all staff. I am presently in an area where outside air pollutant is deemed ‘hazardous’. Please join Malaysia in prayer for rain (helps clean the air), for a stop to individuals setting fires in Malaysia and Sumatra, Indonesia; for Indonesia to accept aide from neighboring countries in stopping fires, and of course the health of people in Indonesia and Malaysia. Thank you for your prayers.
If we were to take today's reading fully to heart, we could spend a lifetime contemplating the mystery of the one flesh union marriage just as Pope John Paul II did in the Theology of the Body. Just as in today's reading Christ restores the dignity and sanctity of marriage, Christ became flesh so that we all may be restored for Christ "makes all things new." Today, praise God with your whole being for this wonderful gift! Take care and God Bless.
