Luke 11:1-4
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for who struggle with depression.
I was walking to get my mail tonight and all I could think about was how God became man and entered into our suffering.
It was brought up in my mind as I continued to think about a theme I wrote about a few reflections back. It was when I reflected on feeling isolated. Ultimately, I know that I can turn to Him Who entered into our suffering and used it to redeem us.
I know that 90% of the time, I pray the Our Father as something I have memorized. Rarely, if ever, do I think of the prayer as a gift given by a Man Who knew our suffering ... Who knows our suffering. I rarely remember that the words of the prayer come from The One Who experienced our poverty.
Someone once asked Mother Teresa what it would take to be holy. She said something to the effect of pray the Our Father once, but take a whole hour.
Let us be mindful of our prayers, and let us remember The God Who gives us this prayer in our own poverty. Take care and God Bless.
