Luke 6: 20-26

Raising his eyes toward his disciples Jesus said:

"Blessed are you who are poor,
for the Kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are now hungry,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are now weeping,
for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you,
and when they exclude and insult you,
and denounce your name as evil
on account of the Son of Man.

Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.

But woe to you who are rich,
for you have received your consolation.
But woe to you who are filled now,
for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will grieve and weep.
Woe to you when all speak well of you,
for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are suffering with cancer.

It's easy to think that I'm doing good when everything seems to be going well. When things are not going well, it's easy to think that I'm not doing "good".

If I took the external away, things in my life could be bad because I made bad decisions, but they could also be bad because God allows it happen. Things in my life could be going peaceful and wonderful, but either way, it is because God allows this.

There is always that great temptation to think that I am good because my life is good. With that rationale, it could easily turn the other way to where I can think of someone as being "bad" because of their external circumstances, and I could think of someone as "better than me" because they have the things I desire.

The Beatitudes are a great reminder that God provides. He provides for the poor ... the hungry ... the sorrowful ... those who are insulted. God provides for them; God provides for me too. It has nothing to do with how good my life seems to be going. Rather, it is because He is God and we are His children. He provides, and when it doesn't seem that He is providing, we have faith that He is providing in a way that is for our good.

God provides. Take care and God Bless.
